This course will introduce the operation and programming of variable frequency drives. Trainees will see how VFDs can be used as stand-alone motion controllers as well as how a PLC can be used for VFD operation. Trainees will reinforce topics and terms by using a hands on learning approach. Approximately half of the class time will be devoted to setting up, programming and troubleshooting VFDs, specifically, the Allen Bradley Powerflex 40. How VFDs operate theory; Physics of Motion ,Forces, Speed, Acceleration, Torque; Variable Frequency Drives Purpose and Operation; VFD Wiring and Setting VFD Parameters; Exercises with Powerflex 40; Programming VFDs Step Logic; Exercise with Step Logic Powerflex 40; VFD control over networks using Ethernet IP; Troubleshooting and Maintenance; Open Loop and Closed Loop Motion Control Systems.
