This course introduces the concepts and applications of Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) in the industrial setting. Trainees in this course will learn best practices for HMI development, screen creation, and how to interface the HMI to PLCs and input/outputs devices. It is recommended that trainees have taken Fundamentals of PLC programming or have prior working knowledge of how to program PLCs. The course will culminate with an introduction to topics and applications in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and is primarily hands-on. Students will have time to work on what they have learned using Allen Bradley Panelview Plus, Siemens Simatic Touch, or Omron HMIs. Purpose and use of HMI, How HMI interacts with PLCs, HMI Screen creation and navigation, Reading and writing data to PLCs, HMI screen exercises, Icons and animations, HMI interactions with remote IO devices, HMI animation exercises, SCADA practice and applications, and Creating a SCADA package for industrial automation.
